CEF Brain Cancer Luncheon/Auction

Mrs. Washington 2011 and Mrs. Washington 2010 Carla Richards

Registration for the Auction Luncheon

Me, Mrs. Seattle Tamara DePorter and Mrs. Washington 2010 Carla Richards
I was honored once again to help out with a CEF event. Mrs. Seattle a dear friend of mine represents this organization as her platform. I have been amazed at what they have been able to accomplish. Today's lunch/auction had many great speakers. Dr. Foltz, Actress Jean Smart, John Brace longest living survivor of brain cancer and family members who lost loved ones from Glioblastoma. It was very moving to hear their stories and what an impact the CEF foundation has made in their lives.
The goal of this foundation is to END BRAIN CANCER through patient advocacy, education and research. Dellann and Chris Elliott co-founded CEF 3 weeks before Chris’ death in 2002 from glioblastoma brain cancer – the deadliest form of brain cancer.
“We didn’t want people and their families to hear the words we kept hearing – ‘I’m sorry, there’s nothing more we can do,” says Dellann,“We must fight this disease from every angle and give every patient access to advanced treatments.”In addition to promoting cutting-edge research and treatments, CEF established the first Integrated Patient Support Program at the Ben and Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment at Seattle’s Swedish Neuroscience Institute, and the Chris Elliott Neuro-oncology Lab for Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. CEF has invested over $1 million to promote brain cancer research and genetic testing.

Vancouver Arthritis Walk

Sunday May 15th I along with Mrs. Thurston County, Mrs. Olympia and Mrs. Lacey joined Mrs. Vancouver for the Vancouver Arthritis Walk. We were the team called Jacque's Wish in honor or Mrs. Vancouver's mother who passed away while battling this disease.
The Arthritis Walk® is the signature fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. It's not just an event, it's a celebration of year-round movement to help prevent and treat arthritis.
Every year we get together to celebrate movement and make a positive impact on the lives of people living with arthritis by raising funds for arthritis research, education and life improvement programs in 250 communities across the country.
The rallying cry, Let's Move Together® encourages people to get up and get moving. When you join the Arthritis Walk®, you're not moving alone-you are becoming part of a community looking to achieve better health and change lives at the same time.

MOPS Auction at Overcomer Covenant Church

Pastor Derozette Banks Mrs. King County and Me!

Yumm desserts were auctioned off!
Still friends even after all the teasing!
Jim Dever was an accomplice but he tried helping to defend my honor!
Yesterday evening I went to my dear friend Dezi's church to help out with a MOPS (Mother of Preschoolers) auction. It was so well done, these ladies put a lot of time and effort into this event. MOPS is dear to my heart, many years ago when my sons were little I started a group at Westwood Baptist in Olympia. That group is still going strong today! It is such a wonderful support system for Mom's of little ones. There are so many joys to raising children but oh so many trials! It's nice to have a place to get re-charged and be in the company of those who understand what you are going through.

Mrs. Washington Party and Practice
April 23rd My director had a wonderful welcome home party for me! We met at a restaurant, had a yummy lunch, cake and some great party favors! It was great to meet some of the new contestants and re-connect with a few I already know!
After the party we went to the Lakewood YMCA for dance practice. The contestants are learning an amazing routine choreographed by our director, for the upcoming Memorial Day celebration in Moses Lake. They have a Lip Sync contest that is the best I have ever seen! I get to be one of the judges this year. The Mrs. Washington group will be performing but not be in the contest, thank goodness it would be hard not to be biased!
